The success of the Murray Steels group depends on the great people who work for us. That is why we are committed to providing jobs and careers that are enjoyable and challenging, in a dynamic environment.
This is aptly demonstrated by our recently qualified apprentice Daniel Gargett. Daniel joined the team in October 2019 through Northern Skills at Middlesbrough College. After completing all his coursework to a high standard, he then successfully passed his final exam 3 months early!
Having previously worked as a supervisor at Poundstretcher, Daniel had no experience in engineering or the steel industry, although he had always had an interest in the field.
He said: “I always wanted to do something in engineering and I’m grateful to Murray Steels for giving me the opportunity and the training to start my career in this industry. My traineeship is primarily as a process operator working with drilling and plasma profiling and cutting, and I have also just started training on the Tecoi plate processing machine.’’
I get a great sense of achievement when I have completed a job, and really enjoy the work and the people at Murray Steels.”
Outside of work, Daniel enjoys sea fishing going a few times a week and is a good baker!
Linsay Thomson, Operations Manager at Murray Steels commented: “Our fresh approach to recruitment differentiates us from others in the marketplace where steel industry experience is a prerequisite. For us, the product knowledge can be taught and acquired via our comprehensive, in-house training programs - individual flair, problem solving capabilities and self-starter mentality are not so easy to come by.
Daniel is a perfect example of this - he is keen, proactive, often works overtime, and is a real credit to the company.”
